Students and the Graduate Visa

There is so much information about studying that it can be overwhelming to get it all. That's why at BWonder, we are always available to answer any questions or concerns.

To start is essential to clarify that there are 4 types of 485 visas:
Graduate Work stream Studies: (degree, diploma or trade) are on the list of occupations in demand in Australia. You need to have applied for the skills assessment.
Post-Study Work Stream: Higher education from undergraduate level upwards.
Second Post-Study Work Stream: This visa is for temporary postgraduate visa holders who have graduated from an Australian institution in a regional area.
Replacement stream: This visa is for current and previous holders of a Temporary Post-Study visa who lost time on their original visa due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Conditions for applying for this visa:
Apply before 1 January 2027.
Have held a temporary postgraduate visa granted before 15 December 2021, effective 1 February 2020.
Not have cancelled visas.
One of the most important changes in the new tax year that started on 01/07/2023 is the study visa which allows international students to stay in Australia longer to pursue their occupation or to work without the obligation to continue studying.
From 1 July 2023:
If you did a Master's degree and received two years of Graduate visa, you can apply for one more.
Post-study Graduate visa holders with a degree in an area of labour shortage in Australia will be eligible for an extension of their visa. Their post-study work rights for specific qualifications in shortage areas will increase from:
- 2 to 4 years for specific undergraduate (bachelor) degrees. - From 3 to 5 years for specific master's degrees.
- From 4 to 6 years for all doctoral degrees. All Doctorate studies are eligible for the measure, regardless of the field of study.
